E-MAIL SUPPORT FAQ

Set up Problems receiving mail What to do with unanswered question
Set Up Problems?

Q: I  can't get my E-mail set up properly! I am receiving an error message when attempting to use my domain e-mail addresses. I have followed the instructions and set the incoming mail server and the outgoing mail server to mail.mydomainname.com.

A: There are really only two reasons why an SMTP (SendMailTransferProtocol) won't work. First, our server authenticates your IP address first by forcing you to check for mail before it allows you to send mail. This is required by orbs.org, an Internet monitor that verifies and blocks spam for ISP's and hosts. Make sure your e-mail software will allow you to check before sending.

Second, many ISP's won't let you send mail through another ISP's external SMTP server. You are forced to use theirs instead. In other words, if your ISP is sam.com, your outgoing mail has to be routed through them always. They will not permit you to connect to a different server and then send your mail.

Q. I ran out of storage space for my e-mail. If I upgrade to another plan with more storage space, will all of my old email still be there?

A. Yes. New e-mail coming in to you will keep trying to deliver for a few hours. If unsuccessful, it will bounce back to the sender.

Q. I recently visited the web based e-mail at "mydomain.com/up" and found tons of old messages. Why? And, how can I delete it ?

A. The domain.com/up, only lets you read the mail too. You can not delete old mail from there. Mail accumulates on our server in you account because your e-mail software tells it to. Make sure your e-mail software is not set to "leave a copy of mail on the server". If is is set so, remove that setting. Then the next time you log on to check mail, your software will download all of the mail. Just delete the messages you do not want.

To set up Netscape, go to "Preferences" and then to the "Mail Server" and uncheck the area that says "leave a copy of mail on the server."

To set up Internet Explorer/Outlook Express go to "Tools" select the e-mail "Accounts" choose the "Properties" menu and go to "Advanced". Leave messages on the server is the last check off option on that screen.

Q. Where is my email being stored?

A. The mail is stored and read on the server here.

Why can't I receive e-mail?

A few things that you can do to troubleshoot:

  • Has your domain name been set up yet? If not or you're not sure, contact We design Web Sites.
  •  If you can receive mail but not send it, click here.
  • If you have been receiving and sending mail and it has abruptly stopped:
    • go into your control panel at: http://www.yourdomainname.com/menu - click on the mail manager and set up a test email username and give it the password:  test. Set that up in your email client - such as Outlook and see if you can send and receive email with the test email you just set up. If you can, then go back into your mail manager and click on your username that is giving you trouble and change the password to something that is all lower case and try that.
    • while you're in your control panel, make sure you haven't run out of storage space on your domain.
    • Run TraceRoute and send the results to us.
